Sofia Vicoveanca

Nascuta Fusa, Sofia Vicoveanca provine din Toporautiul anului 1941, un mic sat in apropierea Cernautiului din Ucraina de astazi.

Refugiat de razboi in copilarie, a fost obligata sa isi paraseasca tara si sa traiasca o viata a greutatilor si neajunsurilor. Profund marcata de acest trecut, Sofia Vicoveanca alege sa cante muzica traditionala a Bucovinei, tinut natal, cu pasiune, iubire si respect. In acest sens, activitatea dansei a fost rasplatita de-a lungul anilor cu numeroase medalii si ordine.

Dupa absolvirea Scolii Populare de Arte in anul 1959, s-a alaturat Ansamblului Ciprian Porumbescu din Suceava. Directorul ansamblului a sugerat schimbarea numelui din Fusa in Vicoveanca, aducandu-se astfel un nou omagiu satului Vicov, in care cantareata a copilarit.

Din anul 1965 si pana astazi, Sofia Vicoveanca a lansat 10 albume si sute de melodii si gratie ei, Bucovina a devenit una dintre cele mai bine cunoscute regiuni ale tarii.

Born Fusa, Sofia Vicoveanca comes from the Toporauti of 1941, a little village close to Cernauti (today a town in Ukraine).

A war refugee, obliged to leave her country and live a life of poverty and hardship, Mrs. Vicoveanca sings traditional music from her birth land with passion, love and respect, all reflected in a significant number of medals and orders she has received over the years.

She graduated The Popular School of Arts and in the year 1959 became a performer with the Songs and Dances Group, Ciprian Porumbescu, Suceava. The manager of the group decided that she needed to change her name to Sofia Vicoveanca, an appellative inspired by the village where she spent her childhood, Vicov.
In 1965 she released her first album. During her great career, she released 10 albums, hundred of songs and thanks to her, Bucovina became one of the most well-known areas of Romania.
